Project Description

This large scale project involved the design and construction of a 53km motorway commencing at Gort and terminating at Kilmore Roundabout, just south of Tuam. The motorway was built by the Direct Route Consortium which included Roadbridge, Sisk and Lagan, and also Strabag of Austria.

Coshla Quarries supplied Sisk with both stone and concrete, and also some concrete to Lagan. Work on this project commenced in 2014 and was completed in 2017, after which point it began to accommodate national travel, improve road safety, reduce journey time and achieve greater connectivity between the Western Region and Dublin. Aiding economic development in the border, midlands and western regions, as well as aiding rural development, the M17/M18 motorway has brought a number of benefits to the area.
